Community Involvement and photo ops
Jacksonville Public Library, Special Collections Department sent the following letter:
Dear Jacksonville Camera Club:
Good afternoon from the Special Collections department at Jacksonville Public Library. Among our goals, we focus on collecting, maintaining and disseminating information related to Duval County history. As an organization that has been a part of the Jacksonville community since 1935, I thought the Jacksonville Camera Club might be interested in our resources and collections.
First, I wanted to make you aware of our Memory Lab here at the Main Library. Through a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation, we are able to offer equipment for customers to digitize a wide variety of older media formats at no cost. Perhaps the Camera Club has photographs, negatives, slides or albums you’d like to scan or videos and films you wish to transfer. Here is a link to more information on our Memory Lab:
We also maintain a Neighborhood Project. In this collection, we strive to represent the various neighborhoods, architecture and natural beauty in Duval County through photographs and video. If there are photos or video taken by members of the Camera Club that may be suitable for this collection, we would love to add them to our website and/or the montage we feature on a big screen in our department. Here is a link to the Neighborhood Project:
There is also the possibility of creating a small archive for the Jacksonville Camera Club here in Special Collections. To discuss any of our resources or inquire about our collections, please feel free to reach out to me. I appreciate your time and hope to hear from you soon. Thank you and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Tammy Kiter, Librarian
