A Tribute to Duffy McCoy

Duffy and her husband, Brian, moved to Jacksonville from Fort Lauderdale in 2003 to be close to Mayo after her liver transplant.  She joined JCC in 2013. She helped organize club outings and served on the 2016/2017 banquet committee where her enthusiasm for winning prizes created a fun raffle at the banquet.

When she first joined the club one of the former members told her that it took years to win a ribbon. After hearing this, Duffy was determined to prove her wrong and she did. She was a wonderful photographer and there were no boundaries for her creativity and imagination when she looked through the lens. Her images won ribbons at JCC and FC3 including yearend competitions. She successfully sold her photos as greetings cards and this summer Plymouth Cards selected one of her images to be included in their 2020 fall catalog.

Duffy was full of life despite her compromised health from her liver transplant and even after she was diagnosed with leukemia in May 0f 2019. Her witty and fun personality made everyone laugh and there was never a dull moment in her company. She was genuine and not afraid to share her thoughts and opinions.

Duffy loved all animals and the animals loved her back just as much.  Especially horses captured her heart and after her liver transplant she became an equine massage therapist. She used to say that the horses fed her soul while she worked on them.

Besides her passion for photography, Duffy loved the beach, Tai Chi (she was a certified Tai Chi instructor), traveling (especially France made her heart sing), energy work, ballroom dancing. She had a sweet tooth for bundt cakes and chocolate.

Anyone who had the privilege to be a friend of Duffy’s knew he or she could count on her to be there for whatever was needed. She will be missed. As she would say: Peace, Love, Laughter and Happiness. Namaste!
