Birding and nature outing at Orlando Wetlands. We expect to see lots of Roseate Spoonbills plus Wood Storks, Purple Gallinule, and common Gallinule. Recent sightings include American Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Bald Eagle and river otter.

Schedule of Events
We will meet at 8:00 am at the visitor center, then proceed as a group or individually. The center does not open until 9, and the first tram rides are at 9.
The Visitors Center has permanent exhibits that include live animals and multimedia displays. The Center is located north of the parking lot and is open to the public from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesdays - Saturdays. The Visitors Center is closed on all City of Orlando observed holidays.
Just north of the parking lot is the Visitor Pavilion with informational displays, map guides, and informative brochures. Stop there to sign-in and out of the Orlando Wetlands.
Lunch afterwards at Dixie Crossroads.
Gear
You will want the longest lens you are willing to carry. There is at least a moderate amount of walking involved. A free tram should be available for exploring much of the park. The long boardwalk is accessed by walking.
Other Tips
The area is generally flat in all locations. There are improved natural paths, roads and boardwalks.
Yes it is January, but do not forget your insect repellent and of course water, sunscreen and a hat.
Directions
Follow S.R. 50 West towards Orlando until the town of Christmas, turn right (north onto Fort Christmas Road (County Road 420). Travel 2.25 miles past Fort Christmas turning Right onto Wheeler Road. Travel 1.5 miles on Wheeler Road to the Orlando Wetlands Park Entrance. The Entrance will be on the Left side of the Road.
There is free parking in front of the visitor center.
