MINUTES OF MEETING # 7 – APRIL 6, 2016

Note: Minutes taken by Jan Gemeinhardt, in the absence of George Hoskins.

The first meeting of April 2016, was held at Shepherd of the Woods Retreat Center, 6595 Columbia Park Court, Jacksonville, FL 32258-2414.

Business Meeting

Gordon Ira, President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

Gordon Ira reviewed the dates for upcoming competitions, outings, and events.

Submissions for the 2nd Quarter Print competition are due by the April 20 meeting.

Gordon Ira stated that the Lighting/Portrait Interest Group will meet on April 27th. Members can contact Gordon if they are interested in attending.

Gordon Ira stated that he and Rick Hartmann were planning on a sunrise shoot at Washington Oaks for April 7th, depending on the weather. The next attempt will be in about 2 weeks. This would be a mini outing. He will keep everyone posted.

The Callaway Gardens Outing is set for April 15-17. Jim Niss is the lead, and stated that a few cabins may still be available.

Bill Coppedge will lead the Alligator Farm Outing on May 7th.

Caroline Peppiatt and Jack Stephens will lead the Okefenokee Outing May 20-21.

Richard Bryce discussed the contest from the Zoo outing held on April 3. Richard will be the judge, and the images are to be sent to him. Participants may submit 3 images each of one species that portray a story. The deadline is midnight April 24th. (An email was sent to all who attended).

Jan Gemeinhardt presented Jim Hunt with an Orchid plant donated from the owners of the EFG Orchid Nursery. An outing was held there on Jan 15th.

John Neel was presented with a reflector, as the award for the Olustee Outing photo contest.

Charise Tanner gave a report on the 2nd quarter Digital Competition. She reminded members to not put their name on the entry, or to use slashes. Digital results will be in June.

Lynda Smith, Church Activity Coordinator, reported that the church needs 3-4 photographers for a 10th anniversary celebration. This will be at their Southside location, on April 30th, 5:30-8pm.

Jim and Jennifer Lowell have HP ink for anyone who can use it. It is HP74xl and HP75xl for an HP Envy 7645 printer.

Google has announced that the Nik Collection Software, which had cost $149, is now going to be free. It is great software and there are free tutorials from Lynda.com and Tim Grey.

Jennifer Thompson announced for Lee Bailey that Jim and Tina Jordan were winners in the recent St. Augustine Orchestra ticket purchase.

Program at next meeting: On April 20 Mary Atwood, local professional photographer, will present the program.

People’s Choice Contest:   The theme was: Anything Music Related. John Neel won first place.

50/50:  Jan Vallely won $18.00 in the 50/50.

Bragging Rights: None.

Guests:  Charles Mazel was a first time visitor.

New Members: None.

Program  Dan Robusto presented a program on a trip to Africa.
