George reported that the minutes of the November 2 General Meeting are on the website. Minutes of the previous Board meeting are not available at this time.
Charise Tanner reported that she is in contact with Gail Means’ sister and son. In the near future she plans to go to the home and retrieve all digital and paper JCC documents that Gail maintained.
A potential donation to SOTW for use of their building was discussed. Ted will contact a staff member to discuss future plans for the room we use and consider a possible donation regarding the sound system in that room.
There was a discussion of the cost of annual awards last year.
Young McQueen made the following motion:
RE: Adjustments to Annual Awards Formats
Print and Digital Awards: Change to Ribbons from Plaques
Progressive Awards: Change levels from One through Associate to certificates and Fellowship through Diamond to one 8/10 plaque with replacement tiles for each level.
Shutterbug Award: Change to a 8/10 Plaque that winner keeps.*
President’s Service Award: Change to a 8/10 Plaque that winner keeps. *
* For 2023 awards, winner keeps present plaque with 2023 tile. No small “keeper acrylic award”.
Robert Clark seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
There was a discussion of possible changes to the number of competitions in 2024. There was no decision to make a specific change. There was agreement that a competition for newer members and those who have not won awards in regular competition would be beneficial. This could be based on the Fresh Faces competitions that were held in the past. Judging would be performed by judge(s) within our Club and it can occur as a part of a meeting program.
There was agreement that there should be future programs to educate members on how to prepare for both digital and print competitions.
Ted Floore led a detailed discussion of AI (artificial intelligence) in photography, with reference to F3C guidelines. There was agreement that the use of AI generative software is prohibited for all JCC competitions and categories. Ted will work with the webmaster to modify competition guidelines on the website. It is also recommended that in 2024 there be a program on the ethics of competition.
There was a discussion of program planning in 2024. It is recommended that the Board reactivate a Programs Committee to assist the Vice President with program planning.
There was a discussion of the Club Bylaws. There is agreement that the Bylaws document on the website should be current, accurate, and should reflect the dates of all revisions. Young McQueen plans to propose Bylaws revisions at a future Board meeting.
Young McQueen gave the following membership report. As of 12/31/2021 there were 49 Active members and 9 Active Life members. In 2022, 28 members joined; 5 of them have renewed. In 2023, 18 members joined the Club.
There was a discussion of our interactions with the Beaches Photography Club and the St. Augustine Camera Club. Young McQueen proposed that there will be discussions with leaders of those clubs about a possible merger of Clubs.
The meeting was adjourned at 9p.m.
George Hoskins, Acting Secretary
