Program

-Business Meeting: Presentation and vote on revised bylaws. A quorum was not met so a vote was not done. Members had questions and comments. Ted Floore: add date to document when approved; asked for clarification of new Life Member status: there will be no more new Life Members but current club members can still attain Life Member status; clarified that members of the Nominating Committee can be a candidate but just cannot vote on the position they are nominated for. George Hoskins also commented on the Life Member question and asked if a Life Member could ever be designated rather than earned, also noted that the proposed bylaws document does not mention anything about the Honors Program and that it should be added before members vote on the new bylaws; Tim Davis, who served on the Bylaw Revisions committee explained that the intention was to have the Bylaws express the core values of the Club and should be difficult to change. Policies and Procedures such as rules for the Honors Program and contests should be part of a separate document that should be easier to change or amend as needed. Charise Tanner noted agreement with that approach. Jim Angelo noted that a document of Policies and Procedures will be added. Tina Jordan voiced agreement. Paula Griffen commented that the points given for competitions be consistent through the years. Jim Angelo stated that he did not know if points had changed over years but agreed that they should be consistent. He also noted that there were positions in the old bylaws that no longer exist and were eliminated. He asked for suggestions of how to get a quorum for a vote. Ernie Mistr, who previously was an HOA president, stated that mail in ballots worked well in his community and could be considered.

-Educational program: What Did You Learn Last Year? Irene Ward shared insights she gained in making photobooks. Anita Fanic learned that a low point of view is great for shooting shore birds. She also learned a new technique for ICM. Jen Samsell told how she has expanded her iPhone photojournalism to include sports/action, street, 5Ks and firefighters. Lloyd Granat discussed the importance of backround for bird photography and also new experiences with bees and other insects. Linda Tranter discussed several best practices that she learned and adopted. Sonia Grutter discussed story telling in photography. Craig Shier demonstrated a new feature of PS that removes lines and cables automatically. Bill McSherry shared his experience with his new camera that takes IR photos. Tim Davis recommended a good book by David Hobby (the Strobist) called The Traveling Photographers Manifesto. Young McQueen shared his new interest in creating images with AI using prompts to mimic various painters. Julius Dean discussed his use of AI to critique his photos and help select photos for competitions.

  1. Regarding the proposed bylaws, they contain a membership type called Associate. This is incorrect, since Associate is a level in Progressive Awards. Jim became aware of this prior to the meeting, and the proposed membership type is changed to Affiliate.
