Military Museum History
Reynolds Industrial Park, where the Museum is located, is the former Naval Air Station, Green Cove Springs, Benjamin Lee Field.
The base was the main training base for the F6F Hellcat fighter which had over 5000 shoot-downs in WWII. It was the US Navy’s main Zero killer.
Visitors can walk in the shadows of WWII fighter pilots and heroes to include General Roy Geiger, the father of Marine Corps aviation, the Black Sheep Squadron pilots, Joe Kennedy (JFK’s Brother), Ed McMahon (Johnny Carson’s sidekick) and many more.
The base was also home to the Navy’s 600 ship Atlantic mothball fleet after the war.
Military Museum History (cont.)
There are pictures and displays of uniforms, weapons and equipment from each of our major conflicts. You can see what it must have been like to live on the western front in World War I.
The equipment and photos from the Vietnam War show how far warfare had progressed since WWI. There are examples of vehicles from the Korean era through Vietnam and beyond.
The museum has many special events including displays of military art like these from noted artist John Shaw. Among other events are our Military History Day, D-Day Commemoration, National Holidays and other memorable days in military history.
North Florida Railway Museum
The North Florida Railway Museum was established in 1989 to preserve, restore, and display the vast railroad history of North Florida via its equipment, library, models, various displays and through the promotion of railroad safety. We are located in the Reynolds Industrial Park in Green Cove Springs, FL, only 30 minutes south of Jacksonville. Our museum collection currently includes seven pieces of equipment in Green Cove Springs, with several other pieces located in Jacksonville waiting moving or sale.
You can visit the Railway Museum on the first, third and fifth Saturday of every month or by appointment.

I really enjoyed the Military Museum, I’ll probably go back after my vision is fully restored and maybe even donate some of my Navy memorabilia (if I can find it).
As far as the RR museum, I started to go but began having vision probs and decided I’d better get home. I’ll check it out later as well.
Thanks Craig, I lived near GCS for 17 years but moved Aug 2007 to Jax. At the time neither museum existed and I would never have known about them. Mike
I initially said I was attending this outing on this weblink but I something has come up for this date and I cannot make it now.
