George L Smith State Park Outing

GeorgeLSmith_0

The October Outing is planned for both Beaches and Jacksonville Photo Clubs. The outing to George L Smith State park offers numerous photo opportunities for Nature, Landscape and Documentary photographers. It is best known for the refurbished Parrish Mill and Pond, a combination gristmill, saw mill, covered bridge and dam built in 1880. The park offers a large mill pond with senic stands of cypress and tupelo trees draped with Spanish moss. The timing with fall colors should be in bloom. Boat rentals are avaivable for those wanting to explorer the pond. Photo opportunities are not limited to the pond as the park has seven miles of trails with wildlife opportunities along with other areas outside of the park nearby such as cotton fields and old barns.

This is an overnight outing. Cabin and camping accomadations in the park are available by reservation directly through the Georgia state park reservations website. Some campsites sit right on the water’s edge, while cottages with gas fireplaces and screened porches are nestled into the woods.
