JCC Website History

JCC Website Security

The steps JCC takes for website security are as follows:

We have a web host that backs up every day and saves 30 days of backups.

We, additionally, back up everyday and save seven days of backups. For this we use the plugin: UpDraftPlus.

Our security plugin is: Wordfence. They monitor our site and prevent as set of actions when they appear to be caused by a hacking attack.

An additional level of security is provided by our CDN, Cloudflare.

Our security history: Two successful hacking attacks were reported by our Site developer in 2015. Since then we have had no known successful attacks.

DoS attack on July 25-26—

Experienced extreme speed reduction on front and back end of the site. Investigations revealed our host CPU time usage was extreme. An investigation by our host revealed a Denial of Service (DoS) attack vs. our site. Under recommendation of our host we turned off WP-Cron.php and in its place created a cron job within the site. Initial usage of CPU time dramatically dropped. Continuing to monitor but the back end is still sluggish.

JCC Website Speed

We have a feeling if our website is fast enough but we now have tools to measure the speed. When we began this website and planed for its launch on July 4, 2016 we set a goal of 80 on Google's speed test for desktops. We are consistently meeting that goal. It does vary from time to time but we offer here tools to test the speed for yourself.

Google's Speed Insight will test the responsiveness, the mobile speed and the desktop computer speed. Just click the link and enter our website address.

GTMetrics is another testing platform. Gives another view of the site's speed. Again click the link and add the website address. YSlow test is not very used in the industry for technical reasons.

Pingdom is another speed test. Ditto for procedure.

WebPagetest is yet another test your may use. Same procedure.

JCC Website SEO

Website SEO is of primary importance to may sites. For us it is not unimportant but it is not primary. We are here to serve our members and they, obviously, have our website address.

We do like to be easily find able by potentials members. To test just search with which every terms you prefer.

Our goal is to show up on the first page. Google does change things some times so they unpredictable.

But do test searching with whatever terms you feel would be appropriate if you were looking for a camera club in our area.
