Cumberland Island is located seven miles east of St. Mary's, Georgia, and is only accessible by boat. A passenger only ferry departs from downtown St. Mary's.

The ferry does not transport pets, kayaks, or cars. You may take a bike but there are limited bikes allowed so make your reservations early.
Visitors must check in at the Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center 30 minutes prior to departure. Failure to check in will result in cancellation of reservation.
Cumberland Island Fees: Fees: $4 Entrance Fee Campground $4 per night National Park Passes are accepted.
There are over 50 miles of trails and roads as well as 18 miles of beach. Hiking, biking, birdwatching and beach combing are popular activities on the island.
There are no amenities on the island beyond the restrooms and water fountains. You should bring lunch and water bottles to refill.
For a safe enjoyable journey prepare yourself by wearing comfortable walking shoes, packing a lunch, snacks, and drinking water, using bug repellent, wearing sunscreen and/or a hat for protection. Beach accessible wheelchairs are available. Please advise Park staff at check-in that you are requesting a chair.
Since the ferry is a passenger only ferry, visitors should plan on walking for all activities unless you bring your bike.
The Park's concession rents bicycles at Sea Camp. You must check with the ferry deck hands to rent bicycles and this may be done as long as the ferry is in port. Park Service staff does not handle bike rentals
For an additional fee (currently $45), you may take a motorized tour of the island. Explore Plum Orchard Mansion, Stafford Cemetery and the Settlement. The driver will stop for photos.

Directions: Driving Directions To reach the visitor center from Interstate 95: • Take Exit 3 for US 40 • Take US 40 East toward “Historic Downtown St. Mary's” • US 40 becomes Osborne Rd. Continue on until you reach the waterfront • Turn right on St. Mary's Rd • The visitor center will be two blocks down on your left (113 St. Mary's St W, St Mary's GA 31558)
