Craig is a Professional Photographer and a Lifetime Member of JCC. He specializes in portrait photography, mostly in black and white using film.
A native of St. Simons Island Georgia, I realized at a young age the power of natural light. Huge oak trees surrounded our house casting shadows and light. In contrast, two blocks away at the beach the light was unfiltered. As a result, I became acutely aware of the beauty, depth and drama that natural light possesses.
When I was 15 my father lost his sight and passed away four years later. This loss was life changing and stirred a deep sense of urgency in me for experiencing life and all things visual. I turned to photography as a creative outlet. Since then, I’ve been an avid student immersing myself in books, workshops, seminars, competitions and art shows.
My focus is to print a photograph as natural and true as the moment that it was captured. The most believable images are the result, creating timeless black and white portraits.
My methods are very straightforward with the emphasis on natural light, film and a sturdy tripod. Premium fiber based papers printed in a traditional wet darkroom offer the archival and aesthetic qualities to complete my vision.
My success has been based on a genuine interest in my subjects coupled with a professional approach and an easy demeanor.
