The Rocks at Marineland and Washington Oaks Gardens – 14 March 2020

N (1) - Sunrise at Marineland - Brian Leonard

Outing Date: March 14, 2020

This outing starts at the beach to photograph rocks and sunrise.

Then we will proceed to the gardens for the rest of the morning.

Lunch will be at noon at JT Seafood Shack

Travel time to the first location is about 1 hour from Jacksonville. Directions:  Follow I-95 South to FL State Road 206 East. Drive to A1A S/A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway to Marineland.

Specific locations are as follows:

The Rocks at Marineland

Sunrise time is 7:35 am and low tide is 8:04 am.

Location – River to Sea Park at the south end (.1miles) of Marineland on A1A.
• Large parking lot with a boardwalk and a restroom
• Directions - Take 95 south to Highway 206 east to Crescent Beach, turn right on A1A approximately 7 miles to Marineland on the left.
• Rocks start at the south end of the boardwalk

This is a good time of year to photograph the Coquina rocks during sunrise.  If you want to be there to catch the sunrise and low tide, I suggest you arrive at 7:15 am to have time to set up for the sunrise.  The tide will be going out revealing the rocks and the waves crashing into them and eventually exposing the rocks and beach at 8:04 am. Then you can catch the tide coming back in gradually covering the beach and rocks until high tide at 1:53 pm.

You might want to photograph at the beach for a couple of hours and then go  to the Gardens State Park and catch the good light there. Once you leave Gardens you can go back in later, just show your receipt.
